We still haven’t named our farm/ranch so for now it’s just Our Place. What is the difference between a farm and ranch? https://www.land.com/buying/difference-between-farm-and-ranch/ According to this article our 7.5 acres with no current animals or crops is a farm. Don’t tell Delilah, the dog as she considers herself a ranch dog. So, we’ll keep stewing on that name for our farm.
Our house was originally built in 1908 in Logan, Utah but at some point, it was moved to its current location. If I had to guess, it is a kit home. http://www.searsarchives.com/homes/1908-1914.htm
So here is our first Renovation Update: From the Inside.
Don’t judge a house by its crappy vinyl siding
In the Cache Valley, it’s hard to find a house with land. This was a unique piece of property but it ain’t pretty. We have grand plans down the road. When we move in permanently in July 2021, we will hire an architect or engineer to tell us if the house is worth remodeling or if we should start over. For now it’s liveable.
People asked for pictures of the inside. Here are some. Excuse my photo gallery, it’s not perfect either.
This is the fireplace in our front living room. The previous owners said they built it or redid it. It does not work as there is no chimney. ©missykuester.com
This is the front room, the first room you walk into. It’s quirky. That wall has to come down but right now it has electricity in it which takes more work. I would like this to be all open one day. They left us that couch too. ©missykuester.com
Much of the main floor has the original wood floor. If we keep the house and renovate, we will redo these floors. ©missykuester.com
If you stand at the front door this is what you see. That is the wall we hope to tear down one day. ©missykuester.com
This is looking from the dining room into the laundry/main floor bathroom. They left us the stackable washer and dryer. That’s about all that will fit in there. We hope one day to reconfigure this area. ©missykuester.com
This is the main bathroom shower and sink. It all needs to be redone but it’s functional for now. ©missykuester.com
This is the office. When you come in the front door, you turn right into this room. Then through this room is another bedroom. The main bath is off this room too. One day I would like to switch the kitchen and bath and make this room an eat in kitchen area…again, maybe. ©missykuester.com
This is the main floor bedroom. It’s a weird little room in which you step down into it. Those are closets. According to legend. The man who moved the house, wanted the roofline a certain way hence why the step down. Again, we will reconfigure this one day. ©missykuester.com
This is a sliding door. One day this will be a window or an addition will go here. ©missykuester.com
This is what we consider the family room. It’s at the back of the house. Don’t ask about the windows. The couch is one the sellers left.©missykuester.com
This bedroom used to be a porch. The floor is slanted. It’s a small room. Right now it is storage. ©missykuester.com
This house has a lot of quirks it goes without saying. These are the original stairs. At one time, a long time ago, the house was two homes, one up, one down. Anyway, we may open this up and actually divert the stairs back out through this room. Until then this is a closet. ©missykuester.com
Like every good Utah family, we have a good size pantry. It’s not pretty and it’s across the house from the kitchen. It’s more than I have in my house in WA. One day the kitchen may be here. It’s dry and functional. ©missykuester.com
The narrow, dark stairs going up. Pantry on the left. ©missykuester.com
This is the bedroom upstairs that faces the front of the house, toward north. It’s the largest of the three upstairs bedrooms. ©missykuester.com
In the middle bedroom upstairs is this little loft area. It is above the hallway. ©missykuester.com
This is the middle bedroom upstairs. One day I envision this becoming a master closet/bath. ©missykuester.com
The upstairs hallway ©missykuester.com
The previous owners loved this clawfoot tub. It’s not super functional right now but we just need to add a shower. This space is large and one day will be redone. ©missykuester.com
There are several of these doors that still exist in the house. ©missykuester.com
There are elements of the house I really love, such as the 5 panel door and these cool doorknobs. ©missykuester.com
At one point the sellers raised the upstairs. The wood floor is where the original room stopped. The took down the wall into what was the attic, hence the different flooring. Under the rug is dry storage. ©missykuester.com
This bedroom is upstairs at the back of the house facing south. When you come off the stairs, you turn right into this room. ©missykuester.com
Again, they raised the roof at one time and took down the walls. This is in the front bedroom. The second smaller door was access into the attic at one time.©missykuester.com
Going down the stairs, narrow, and creaky

Thanks for following along. I hope you’re in for the long haul.
